Mission

The Veranda was founded in May 2020 in response to the lack of satisfactory representation of South Asians, especially those of marginalized genders, in publishing and media. We bring people and resources together to foster a community of writers and enable access to like-minded individuals so we can share the stories only we can tell.

Our Name

Though we were initially founded as Subtle Curry Writers among the boom of other Subtle Curry groups, we decided to rename ourselves to The Veranda in May of 2021. A veranda is a place for gathering commonly found in South Asian homes. It is a boundary, but not the boundary. It's a welcome mat and a margin. The Veranda represents the liminal space we’ve carved for ourselves and the community of marginalized South Asian writers we’d like to nurture.

Donating to Our Ko-Fi Campaign

In our efforts to keep the Veranda accessible to everyone, we have set up a Ko-Fi campaign. Please consider donating by clicking this link.
